This project considers the ongoing transformations to our collective and individual relationships to nature. This includes, a reconsideration of what we mean by “nature.”
Through research of potential transformations in the realms of climate, post-humanism and synthetic biology, I speculate through domestic waste decompositions sytems about their implications, their dangers, and their opportunities for humans and non-humans in the near future.
In a future where our trash systems as we know them are over, how do residents raise and nurture decompositions in each of our homes? What if we had new members in our homes, a stomach of the house we lived with - to live and grow and consume our consumables?
But remember, they live here, and as with residents like you and me, the stomach needs to be burped, cleaned, rested and cared for, otherwise who knows what can go wrong…
Blender scene set up
Initial modeling exploration started with rendering glass intenstines and stomachs. In this eco-imaginary of ex vivo decomposition, what shape would these structures take inside our home? Biosynthetically, these glass vessels mimic the shapes, folds and twists of our own digestive tract, allowing microbes and organic decomposers to settle and flourish in pockets and pools.
An instruction manual story board outlines the ways we live with and take care of our digestive domestics.
